The Back Porch Book Club:
Monthly podcasts, book picks and bookish community co-hosted by Karen Milioto and Tasha Whitton.
Why is it named after a back porch?
Because we think there is a certain pace that always seems to accompany life’s best porches. One that is unhurried and lacks the distractions of every day life. The best ones are somehow able to make time stand still while we are on them. Those are the ones that stand in the midst of an urgent world full of distractions and obligations, undeterred.
Once you have arrived on a back porch you quickly notice it’s a place where you can rest your feet, lean back and exhale.
The rocking chairs, swings and the people who fill them alongside you all seem to echo the same soft and still message: one that insists that there, on the porch, both the silence and the conversation are sacred.
Back porches make great meeting places. Where the discussion is relaxed. Ideas can be exchanged, thoughts shared, struggles voiced and joys lifted. A porch is a great place to find a new friend or connect with an old one.
And on a dark night, its the porch with its soft lights shining in the distance that help light the path that leads us onward towards our home.
So, as we launch this new Book Club, we hope everything about it is a little back porchy. A place where we stop everything for a while, relax and exchange ideas and develop a community with people who think books are as cool as we do.
